Chelsea reject rumours of Terry sale

Chelsea have rubbished speculation that they were considering selling captain John Terry, with La Liga club Valencia a rumoured destination, according to Yahoo Sport.

John Terry

It had been claimed by a Spanish agent on a Spanish radio station that Valencia were in negotiations with Chelsea over the transfer, as Terry is out of contract at Chelsea next summer and, the agent added, was not willing to extend his deal to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea however released a statement branding the suggestion as “nonsense”, with Yahoo adding that Terry has 18 months left on his existing Chelsea contract rather than the shorter period the agent had previously stated to the Spanish broadcaster.

Terry is currently in the midst of a four-game domestic suspension for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, having missed Chelsea’s win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Terry will also be unavailable for the Premier League-League Cup double-header with Manchester United, but is available to play in the Champions League and captained Chelsea in defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.
