Evans believes Man Utd squad rotation bodes well for Chelsea clash

Manchester United central defender Jonny Evans believes that the squad rotation enforced by manager Sir Alex Ferguson this season will keep the side fully fit and refreshed for the season’s challenges, starting this Sunday with the crunch top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Evans has been one of the few to have enjoyed long spells in the Man Utd team this season due to their defensive injury problems but ahead of him and particularly in the forward line, United have often chopped and changed with each game.

Indeed, according to the Manchester Evening News, Northern Ireland international Evans believes it could give his side an edge heading into the eagerly-awaited Chelsea fixture.

It’s something that the manager has been good at over the years, rotating the squad,” said Evans.

He always seems to get it right. Chelsea played a full strength side [against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League] so it might give us a little bit of an advantage going into the game. But it’s going to be a tough away game, it always is. We just need to put in a good performance.

However, Evans warned that the quality within Chelsea’s ranks ensures that Ferguson’s men will have to be on their toes.

They’ve got a talented line-up. You can see that by the way they’ve been scoring goals this season. It’s going to be a tough game. I don’t think our record has been great down there for the last couple of seasons so we need to go there and put in a good away performance like we did against Newcastle.
