Merseyside derby holds no fear for Everton winger Mirallas

Kevin Mirallas feels no trepidation ahead of his first experience of a Merseyside derby as the Everton winger has been at the centre of one of the most fierce rivalries in Greek football, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Mirallas played for Olympiakos for two years before moving to Everton this summer, and last season’s meeting with Athens rivals Panathinaikos is one the Belgium international is not likely to forget quickly.

We were winning 1-0 and people were obviously getting annoyed with the fact we were four points ahead of them at the time,” Mirallas said. “Everyone was getting worked up and they had to call it off. Some of the fans got on to the pitch and were throwing Molotov cocktails - it got really out of hand.

Mirallas went on to say that, from what he has seen since his August transfer, supporters in England are capable of generating a great deal of noise from the stands but still manage to be respectful towards each other and the players on the pitch.

He added that, in his opinion, Everton are favourites to win the match, with the home side going into the game in fourth place, with 15 points, while Liverpool are languishing in 12th with only nine points to their name.
