Jack Wilshere could make his return to first team football after an absence of more than a year by starting for Arsenal against Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League on Saturday, the Guardian has reported.

Wilshere has been making a slow return from a series of injuries that have kept him out of action since summer 2011, appearing for the Gunners’ U-21 side on a number of occasions. Wilshere was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road in their last league outing, but was not in the squad for the Champions League loss to Schalke on Wednesday.

It is May 2011 since Wilshere last appeared in a competitive game for Arsenal, suffering an injury in pre-season friendly that snowballed into a long-running spate of physical issues that eventually ruled the England international out of the entirety of last season and the summer’s Euro 2012 tournament.

Wilshere was originally in line to start against Reading in the Capital One Cup next week but the Guardian claims manager Arsene Wenger could draft Wilshere into the team sooner as he seeks a remedy to the problems Arsenal have faced in recent performances.
