Walcott among five players set for Arsenal exit

Saturday 27 October 2012

Theo Walcott’s days at Arsenal could be numbered as the Daily Mail reports the England winger is one of five players Arsene Wenger will allow to leave the club in the January transfer window. Walcott is joined by Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci, Andrei Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh.

The newspaper adds that the clear out is an attempt by Wenger to raise funds to make additions to his squad and bolster the Gunners’ flagging season. That may come as a surprise to Arsenal supporters, however, as the club’s recent Annual General Meeting confirmed Arsenal to be in rude financial health.

Arsenal would prefer to keep Walcott, the Mail claims, but if the two sides cannot agree a new contract by January then he could be sold, to avoid the chance of the player leaving for free in the summer. Juventus, Liverpool and Chelsea are among Walcott’s suitors.

Chamakh could be in line for a return to Bordeaux, although his wage demands may prove a stumbling block, while Arshavin is interesting Fulham and a number of sides in his native Russia.
