Southampton vs Tottenham - Match preview and team news

Sunday 28 October 2012

Tottenham look to get back to winning ways against a struggling Southampton side on Sunday.

St Mary's Stadium

Andre Villas-Boas answered many of his critics with Tottenham's impressive victory away to Man Utd at the end of September, however he will be hoping that last weeks' defeat to Chelsea, coupled with a draw in midweek against Maribor in the Europa League, are not the signs of a renewed struggle. A win today would move Spurs back into the Champions League positions, and two points ahead of north London rivals Arsenal.

Southampton meanwhile have found the transition to Premier League football difficult, despite some impressive moments. Six defeats, one win and a draw so far leaves the Saints in 19th, and they come into the game on the back of a disappointing 4-1 defeat away to fellow neo-promoted side West Ham.

For Spurs Gareth Bale returns, having missed the previous two clashes due to the birth of his child. Moussa Dembele, also absent for those ties due to a hip injury, also returns, signalling tom Huddlestones' move to the bench. Up-front, Clint Dempsey is set to get the nod ahead of midweek scorer Gylfi Sigurdsson. Emmanuel Adebayor is back after missing midweek with back complaint.

For the Saints, star summer signing Gaston Ramirez misses out with a thigh injury, joining Jack Cork and Frazer Richardson in the treatment room.
