Newcastle vs West Brom - Match preview and team news

Sunday 28 October 2012

West Brom look to continue their impressive start to the new campaign under Steve Clarke as they face an inconsistent Newcastle side at St James' Park.

St James' Park

The Baggies have recorded victories over Liverpool and Everton amongst others, and from their first five home games this season, have won them all, with the exception of Manchester City last weekend. Away from home they have recorded two draws and a defeat. If results go for Clarke, and West Brom take all three points today, a position in the Champions League qualification places awaits.

Magpies manager Alan Pardew may be concerned about his sides' league form, winning just one of the last seven ties, coming in a 1-0 victory over Norwich. They will be buoyed however by an away draw in the Tyne-Wear derby last time out in the league (with ten men for much of the game), and win at home to Club Brugge in midweek Europa action.

Newcastle have Cheick Tiote out suspended following his derby day dismissal, while Rob Elliot (groin) and Dan Gosling (ankle), are also unavailable.

West Brom could have skipper Chris Brunt back, along with Claudio Yacob, although late fitness tests may be necessary for both.
