Gerrard attacks Neville over derby dive

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has criticised Everton captain Phil Neville for his dive in the Merseyside derby at the weekend, claiming he has made life difficult for Toffees boss David Moyes, reports the Daily Star.

Neville had been running around the edge of the Liverpool penalty area, when he appeared to fall without contact from Reds defender Daniel Agger - he was promptly yellow-carded for simulation by referee Andre Marriner.

Gerrard, who provided the assist for the Reds' second goal for Luis Suarez, claimed the dive was all the more inappropriate due to comments made pre-game by Moyes, claiming diving by Suarez could put fans off football.

Gerrard said: “I think that Phil Neville badly let his manager down. His manager did every paper, every radio station and every TV channel, talking about Luis Suarez.
Then his captain, who is meant to be setting an example, blatantly dives.

"With what he said about Luis Suarez before, David Moyes was trying to get in the referee’s head, which is fine, that’s all part of the game, stuff like that, but you don’t expect your captain to dive like that."

Suarez had his own mode of responding to the comments from Moyes, celebrating his assist for Liverpool's first goal by feigning a dive in front of the Everton dug-out - something Moyes later replied to, saying that the player would "have to dive in front of a lot of managers now".
