Arsenal stage stunning Capital One Cup comeback against Reading
Wednesday 31 October 2012
Arsenal reached the next round of the Capital One Cup in stunning fashion, beating Premier League rivals Reading 7-5 after extra time having trailed 4-0 after little more than half an hour, Reuters has reported.
Theo Walcott pulled a goal back for the Gunners just before half-time, setting the stage for a second-half that saw Reading eventually give up what had seemed a commanding lead. Goals from Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and, in the 90th minute, a second from Walcott took the game to extra time.
There, Marouane Chamakh put Arsenal in front for the first time in the contest, only for Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak to tie the scores at 5-5. But Walcott netted his hat-trick goal to edge Arsenal in front again and Chamakh scored his second to finally tilt the balance in favour of Arsene Wenger’s side.
Goals from Jason Roberts, a Koscielny own goal, Mikele Leigertwood and Noel Hunt had rocketed Reading ahead of Arsenal after 37 minutes.
