Liverpool boss Rodgers expects good reception at Swansea for Allen

Brendan Rodgers believes Swansea City’s supporters will afford Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen a warm welcome back when the sides meet in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, the Daily Mail has reported.

Joe Allen

Both Rodgers and Allen made the move from the Liberty Stadium to Anfield over the summer and, while acknowledging that the Swansea fans may have been disappointed to see Allen depart, Rodgers believes they have little reason to hold Allen in contempt upon his return to Wales.

Allen came through the Swansea academy and Rodgers argues that by leaving in a £15m move, Allen brought in massive profit to the club after entering years of good service. He added: “He's a kid that has come through the system there, he gave everything to the club in his time…the supporters are probably disappointed that he went but he has actually given them £15m plus a lot more in all his time there.

The Mail adds however that it is not guaranteed that Allen plays in the Capital One Cup. Having firmly established himself as an integral part of Rodgers’ Liverpool side, Allen could yet be rested for the match with Liverpool’s hectic schedule in mind.

In his time at Swansea, Allen made almost 150 appearances, helping the side from League One and into the Premier League in the process. He has so far made 12 appearances for Liverpool, all of them in the Premier League or the Europa League.
