Chelsea v Man Utd - Capital One Cup preview and team news

Wednesday 31 October 2012

Just three days since the dramatic events of Sunday's clash between these two sides, Chelsea and Manchester United meet again at Stamford Bridge.

Much has been said about the refereeing decisions of Mark Clattenburg on Sunday, and subsequent allegations of 'inappropriate language' directed at Chelsea players Jon Obi Mikel and Juan Mata.

However tonight's Capital One clash is unlikely to see most of the weekend's protagonists go face-to-face, as both Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo, and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, ring the changes.

Chelsea will already be without the suspended John Terry, Fernando Torres, and Branislav Ivanovic, while Frank Lampard, and possibly Ashley Cole, will miss out due to injury.

Right-back Cesar Azpilicueta is set to come into the team, along with Daniel Sturridge. Marko Marin, back from injury, should also start, with Lucas Piazon expected to feature too.

Man Utd are expected to rest Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, amongst others. Shinji Kagawa, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic and Phil Jones all miss out through injury - Alexander Buttner, Anderson, Scott Wootton, Ryan Giggs, and Darren Fletcher are all expected to play some part.
