Arsenal keen on Germany duo

In a bid to strengthen his squad Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking at two young German internationals, according to the Daily Mail.

Lewis Holtby

Andre Schurrle, the Leverkusen forward and Lewis Holtby, the Schalke midfielder are both on Wenger’s wish-list and given the uncertainty over Theo Walcott and Marouane Chamakh’s future at the north London club, he may be ready to act.

Holtby is a boyhood Everton fan and has an English father but has twice represented Germany. He has been in good form this season netting three goals in nine games, helping guide Schalke to a five game unbeaten run, and was particularly impressive during Schalke’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League in October.

Holtby is out of contract in the summer and is thought to be on the radar of several English clubs including Liverpool and Everton.

Andre Schurrle came to prominence at FSV Mainz with 15 in goals in his final season before an €8 million transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in 2011, and was in the Germany squad for Euro 2012.

Particularly adept with both feet, hard working and technically gifted, the 21 year-old would be well suited to the Premier League and has already been the subject of a £23 million bid by Chelsea earlier this year.
