Club captain Garry Monk feels that Swansea City should not fear reigning European champions and Premier League leaders Chelsea, claiming they can compete with any side in Europe, reports Wales Online.

Swansea are fresh off the back of a midweek win over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup at Anfield, and Monk believes that Wednesday night’s result and the performance in their narrow defeat at Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend has given them the belief that they should no longer fear any side.

Michael Laudrup’s side host high flying Chelsea - who are also through to the Capital One Cup quarter-finals - at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Having added the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar to their frontline since winning the Champions League last May, Chelsea are considered serious as title contenders but Monk says the Swans are full of confidence.

Monk added: “I think the game against Man City showed us that we can go to the champions, put in that sort of performance and really take it to them.

Our mind set has changed. The result [against Liverpool] has given us belief that we can achieve things and not just talk about it. On our day we’re good enough to compete with anyone, anyone in Europe, anyone at all. Hopefully we’ll show it against Chelsea.

Monk is hoping to be part of the defence called on to stop Roberto Di Matteo’s side, who have averaged more than two goals a game this season, after Spanish centre-back Chico Flores limped off in midweek with a dead leg.
