Wenger confronted Santos over half-time van Persie shirt pursuit
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is said to be angry over his full-back Andre Santos’ decision to pursue Robin van Persie’s Manchester United shirt at half-time of their 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Arsenal fans were enraged when the Brazilian was captured on live television taking the shirt of their former captain, who had earlier taken advantage of current Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen’s mistake to put the Red Devils in front, as they walked down the tunnel. Van Persie did not take Santos’ shirt.
According to the Daily Mirror, Wenger is said to have demanded answers in the Arsenal dressing room at half-time from the left-back, who endured a torrid time throughout the 90 minutes at the hands of Antonio Valencia.
Santos, who also put in a poor showing at home to Schalke in the Champions League, could now face a struggle to retain his place for the Gunners’ return clash with the German side on Tuesday.
