Di Matteo hails Chelsea spirit after dramatic Champions League win
Thursday 08 November 2012
Roberto Di Matteo has praised the spirit among his Chelsea players after seeing Victor Moses score a last-gasp goal that keeps the holders of the Champions League on course to qualify for the knockout rounds, the Daily Mail has reported.

With the score between Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk level at 2-2, Di Matteo was facing the prospect of dropping to third in the group by virtue of Juventus’ emphatic victory over the Group E whipping boys, Nordsjaelland. That would have left Chelsea in need of no less than a victory when they travel to Turin, rarely a profitable hunting ground for visiting teams.
Chelsea had twice led against Shakhtar, through Fernando Torres and Oscar, only for in-demand Brazil international Willian to pull the scores level each time. But Di Matteo welcomed the perseverance of his players as summer signing Moses scored his second goal in as many games, having netted in the prior Premier League fixture against Swansea City.
Di Matteo said: “We knew the kind of pressure we were under and it was must-win for us. We didn't want to expose ourselves too much. We knew we could have scored a goal with the last kick and that is what happened.
“The spirit the group showed again to keep going until the end.”
