Arsenal to turn to Taarabt if Zaha move fails
Thursday 08 November 2012
Arsene Wenger is already plotting how and where to bolster his Arsenal squad in the January transfer window as the Daily Mirror reports the Gunners manager will move for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt if he cannot sign Crystal Palace’s young forward Wilfried Zaha.
The newspaper adds that Zaha is considered top of Wenger’s wanted list with a £7m offer to be tabled for the England U-21 international, but the manager is in the market for two attack-minded players and Taarabt is thought to be a target if Palace dig in their heels and refuse to sell their 19-year-old prodigy.
Arsenal’s £7m offer is expected to fall some way short of the Championship club’s valuation of Zaha, which is likely to stand at closer to £15m. Zaha has made 16 appearances for his club so far this season, scoring four goals, and turns 20 this weekend.
An attempt to bring Taarabt to the Emirates Stadium would see the Morocco international play for the local rivals of the team that originally brought him to England, Tottenham Hotspur. Taarabt spent three years as a Spurs player - including a full season on loan at Loftus Road - but only flourished after making the move to the R’s.
