Arsenal the latest Premier League side watching Burnley striker Austin
Arsenal have joined the list of Premier League clubs watching the progress of Charlie Austin at Championship side Burnley, according to the Daily Mail.
The striker has been watched by an increasing number of top flight scouts over the past five games as they assess his ability to make the step up from the second tier after catching the eye by hitting 20 goals in 17 games this season.
Newcastle have been credited with a long-standing interest in the former Swindon Town forward, while Liverpool, Everton, Reading and Aston Villa have also been following the 23-year-old, who this season has a better scoring ratio than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Austin was playing non-league football only three years ago when Swindon offered him a chance further up the pyramid, signing the former bricklayer from Poole Town. He responded by netting 37 goals in 65 games for the Robins.
Bournemouth had previously taken Austin on trial but a transfer embargo meant the Cherries were unable to complete the deal, but then-manager Eddie Howe later brought Austin to Turf Moor for £1.5m after taking a position at Burnley, before he returned to Bournemouth in October.
