Southampton v Swansea - Match preview and team news
Bottom club Southampton welcome Swansea to the south coast in a clash that if reports are to believed, may be Nigel Adkins’ last in charge of the Saints. A morale-boosting victory would go down a treat with the St Mary’s faithful and particularly for the under-pressure Adkins.
Goalkeeper Artur Boruc is available for selection once again after the club’s investigation into claims he threw a bottle at his own supporters were concluded during the week and he could come in for Paulo Gazzaniga in-between the sticks for the home side.
Elsewhere, Great Britain Under-23 international Jack Cork could make his first appearance of the season after finally recovering from a knee injury while right-back Frazer Richardson is closing in on a comeback appearance as he recovers from a groin issue. Elsewhere, Adkins looks set to persist with a front two of Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert while record signing Gaston Ramirez should take his place in midfield.
Visitors Swansea have recovered from their early season blip to go on a hugely impressive run of form which has seen them only defeated once in their last five outings in all competition and even that only came courtesy of a tight 1-0 defeat at champions Manchester City.
Manager Michael Laudrup was impressed with his side’s resolve as they battled back from a goal down to take a point at home to Chelsea last week and will be confident that his side’s attacking endeavour will match the home side’s forward ambitions.
The Swans will continue to be without Michel Vorm so Gerhard Tremmel will continue to deputise while central defender Chico Flores is a huge doubt with a leg injury. With fellow centre-back Kyle Bartley also missing, club captain Garry Monk could continue to partner Ashley Williams in the heart of the Swans’ defence.
Up front, Laudrup must choose whether to persist with Michu as a “false nine” or select a more conventional forward in the shape of Danny Graham.
