Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has admitted that he has not been approached over the vacancy at Hampden Park, but is unsure of what he would do if the opportunity arises.

McLeish’s stint in charge of the Tartan Army nearly saw them reach Euro 2008 and saw McLeish leave for then-Premier League side Birmingham City.

McLeish stated that he loved the Scotland job when he was in charge and the challenge of pushing top sides such as France and Italy in their qualification group was something he relished. However, the lure of day-to-day management was too much for the 53 year old and he jumped at the chance to move to St. Andrew’s.

McLeish has been moved as second favourite, behind former Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan, but has said himself that the job may not be the right opportunity for him at this current time.

“If I did take the job now, it would probably go against what I said then which is I want to work in day-to-day football. But who knows? I certainly feel that the experiences that I have had, the quality that I have shown and successful times I have had in England should stand me in good stead”, the former Aston Villa manager said.

After being dismissed as manager at Villa Park last season, he has been off the radar as far as managerial opportunities. McLeish has now revealed that he is ready to get back into management and although the Premier League is ‘the place to be’, if a job at Championship level came calling, he would not turn it down if it was the right opportunity.
