Jack Wilshere has revealed he never wants to leave Arsenal, vowing not to follow the likes of Cesc Fabregas out of the exit door and claiming he wants to emulate former Gunners captain Tony Adams, the Daily Mail has reported.

Fabregas left Arsenal for Barcelona last summer after confirming his desire to play for his hometown club but Wilshere has revelled in already being at his local team. The England international said he understood Fabregas’ position but there was no danger of him following suit as he was already home.

Wilshere continued by pledging to match the achievements of the likes of Tony Adams, who made more than 650 appearances for Arsenal and won the league title of four separate occasions, with his first and last championship victories coming 13 years apart.

The 20-year-old missed almost a year-and-a-half of football after a series of back, ankle and foot injuries, with Wilshere only able to return to action a matter of games ago. Wilshere is suspended for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Fulham but was included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad to play Sweden next week.

To have my family 20 minutes from the training ground and an hour from the stadium is perfect for me. Cesc wanted to go home. Home for me is Arsenal. Cesc wanted to go back to his family and friends. My family and friends are 20 minutes away. It’s perfect,” Wilshere said.

He added: “I’ve played 39 games in the Premier League, which is nothing when you look at players like Tony Adams and how many appearances they made. That’s something I want to do.
