Wenger calls for Podolski to be given time to adapt to Arsenal life

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Lukas Podolski will return to his best form once he is settled in to life in the Premier League and the role he is asked to take at Arsenal, the Guardian has reported.

Lukas Podolski

Podolski moved to the Gunners from Koln over the summer, having previously played for Bayern Munich. With more than 100 caps for Germany to his name Podolski is among the most experienced players at Arsenal, but Wenger feels he is having a little trouble adjusting to life in English football and promised that once the forward does, Gunners fans will see the best of the 27-year-old.

The £10.9m signing this week called for Wenger to select him as an orthodox centre-forward, rather than the wide berth he has been given since his July transfer, but Wenger feels Podolski will eventually grow accustomed to the physical demands of playing in England.

Pointing to the experience of Robert Pires, Wenger said: “Podolski will adapt, I don't worry for him. He has a very good spirit and he wants to do very well. Of course, because he tries to help the team, sometimes he does some work now … but he will get used to it. He can as well play through the middle or behind the striker. That is one of the reasons I brought him.
