The fourth goal scored by Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he inspired his country to a 4-2 victory over England has been hailed by onlookers from the victorious hosts, the defeated visitors and the football world at large, the BBC has reported.

Ibrahimovic celebrates his fourth goal of the game

Already with a hat-trick to his name, Ibrahimovic capitalised on a tame Joe Hart clearance, lobbing the Manchester City goalkeeper with an overhead kick from around 30 yards, the ball dropping into the net as England defenders tried in vain to prevent it crossing the line. The goal wrapped up Sweden’s victory and crowned the opening of the new Friends Arena, with the match being held to inaugurate the recently-built stadium.

Ibrahimovic gave Sweden the lead after 20 minutes only for England to hit back before half-time, taking the advantage through Danny Welbeck and Steven Caulker, the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back scoring on his debut. Ibrahimovic again intervened after the break, however, scoring in the 77th, 84th and 90th minutes, the latter the spectacular effort that had observers purring.

According to the BBC, the Sweden Coach, Erik Hamren, said: “I don't know if you will see another like it in your life. Sometimes, when he's doing these things, in training or in matches, you don't think it's possible. Because it's not possible to do that - the fourth goal, for example.

Ibrahimovic’s England counterpart and the newest member of the England 100-caps club, captain Steven Gerrard, described the goal as the best he has ever seen scored live, while Roy Hodgson commented: “The fourth goal was the crowning glory. It's a wonderful goal to see on a football field, though I would rather have seen it against someone else.
