Man City to bid for Liverpool striker Suarez
Thursday 15 November 2012
Manchester City are to make a £40m bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez when the winter transfer window opens at the end of next month, the Daily Mirror has reported.
The newspaper adds that the defending Premier League champions want to push through the transfer in an effort not only to hold onto their crown, but warn their competitors that they will not give up the title without a fight. It has been suggested that if Roberto Mancini does not retain the title, he will find himself out of work come the summer.
Liverpool however are unlikely to be of a mind to sell Suarez, the club’s top scorer this season and only fit senior centre-forward. The Uruguay international moved to the club in January 2011, having previously played for one of City’s Champions League opponents, Ajax.
Suarez cost Liverpool £24m at the time and the Mirror reckons if City offer to double the Reds’ investment then the people in charge of the purse strings at Anfield will have little option but to accept the fee with which they are presented. A profit of more than £20m would be directed into the transfer fund of manager Brendan Rodgers in order to assist his rebuilding of the squad.
