Hart not guaranteed Man City place, warns Mancini

Roberto Mancini has said that while he retains faith in Joe Hart, the first-choice goalkeeper for both Manchester City and England, he will not hesitate to drop him if his form does not improve, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Joe Hart

Hart was criticised for his performance in midweek for England as Roy Hodgson’s side fell to a 4-2 defeat against Sweden, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring all of the home side’s goals. The Paris Saint-Germain striker’s fourth goal was a spectacular overhead kick from long-range, but it came about because of a weak Hart header that left the goalkeeper stranded outside his penalty area.

The international struggle came days after Hart was considered by some to have been at fault for Tottenham Hotspur’s goal in the Premier League meeting between the north London club and the Premier League champions. City eventually rallied to win the match 2-1 but Mancini noted the blunder, and has been critical of Hart already this season.

Mancini said: “If Joe does not play well for five, six games, probably I can change the keeper. This is normal. For me, for every manager. But I trust totally in Joe. Sometimes he can make a mistake, but this is the keeper’s life - I can’t change this. But every player needs to work hard every day to improve himself - for the game, for the national team.
