Norwich vs Man Utd - Match preview and team news

Saturday 17 November 2012

Two of the form sides in the Barclays Premier League go head-to-head in the late kick-off at Carrow Road today.

Carrow Road

Norwich come into the clash on the back of five games unbeaten, which includes victories over Arsenal, and Tottenham in the League Cup. Recent form has helped make amends for a tough start to the season for Chris Hughton's men, leaving them currently in 15th position going into today's clash with the league leaders.

Man Utd meanwhile have usurped their city rivals for top spot on the back of nine victories in ten, the most recent seeing the Red Devils come back from 2-0 down away to Aston Villa, to win 3-2.

Norwich have few injury worries - on loan Spurs striker Harry Kane is out, as is Russell Martin. Grant Holt, who scored in this fixture earlier in the year, will start.

Sir Alex Ferguson will however need to utilise his ample squad depth. Wayne Rooney is a doubt with an ankle injury, giving Javier Hernandez the opportunity to start on the back of seven goals in six appearances.

Phil Jones is out for this clash, as are Nani and Nemanja Vidic. Jonny Evans faces a late decision on his fitness - if he misses out, Chris Smalling will partner Rio Ferdinand.

Chris Hughton

“A visit from Manchester United is always special for lots of reasons, the history they have and of course what they have done over the last decade or so winning numerous trophies.

"Generally when you are on a decent run the feel around the place is different. That is normal, but there is always a nice build up to a big game."

Sir Alex Ferguson

“You’ve seen Norwich’s display against Arsenal. I’ve got a lot of respect for Chris Hughton.

“I think he’s done a fantastic job at Birmingham and Newcastle and, with that performance against Arsenal, you think they’ve maybe turned the corner in terms of Chris’s introduction there as manager.

“It’s always the same when a manager goes to a new club. There’s a different way of training, there are different ideas about players and maybe Chris is getting it together now."
