Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey insists the Gunners must win their midweek Champions League clash with Montpellier, if they want to be sure of progressing in the competition.

Arsenal currently sit in second position in Group B, behind a Schalke that has taken four points from their recent back-to-back games against the Gunners. Third place Olympiakos are just one point behind Arsenal, and the two teams face each other in the final group game.

Ramsey, who came off the bench in his sides' 5-2 victory over north London rivals Tottenham at the weekend, insists that his side will need to take all three points against bottom-placed Montpellier on Wednesday in order to go into that final game confident of progressing.

Ramsey told the official club website: “They have competed against every team [in the group] and shown that they can create and can be a threat, so they will be no pushover. They will want to prove something as well. We have to be aware of that, and be on top of our game on the day.

“The group is pretty tight, so I think you can say we have to win that game. We are at home, so hopefully we can do that and put ourselves in a strong position to qualify.”

Former Montpellier forward Olivier Giroud will get the chance to face his old club - the French striker as netted five goals in his last six in all competitions.
