Galatasaray vs Man Utd - Champions League preview and team news

Tuesday 20 November 2012

A weakened Manchester United side travel to Galatasaray looking to keep their 100% record in the Champions League this season intact. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will face a fiery set of Turkish fans as they look to recover from their poor showing at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Turk Telecom Arena

United have not been in top gear in Europe this season, but still have maximum points from their first four games. Ferguson has rested key stars such as Robin van Persie, David de Gea and Wayne Rooney, leaving them in Manchester. Nani and Nemanja Vidic are still suffering with injuries, but United’s injury list has deteriorated from the struggles Ferguson faced at the start of the season.

Danny Welbeck is pushing for a start in the Turk Telecom Arena with Phil Jones returning to the side after a lengthy lay-off with injury. Ferguson’s side only usurped the Turkish outfit 1-0 in the home fixture of this Champions League group, Michael Carrick scoring the only goal.

Galatasaray sit second in the group, tied on four points with Cluj, and with Champions League progression at stake, boss Fatih Terim will be looking for success against the Premier League side. A shock home defeat to Karabukspor at the weekend is not ideal preparation for Galatasaray, but Terim has a full strength squad to choose from.

Former Arsenal right-back Emmanuel Eboue and former Bolton striker Johan Elmander will be faces that English fans recognise, but the latter will start from the bench after returning from a thigh problem last weekend. Tomas Ujfalusi is the only long-term doubt for Galatasaray after injuring his knee in August. The Turkish goal threat comes from striker Burak Yilmaz, who has scored all four of the Galatasaray goals in this season’s competition.
