Wednesday 21 November 2012

Arsenal can take a big step towards qualification for the Champions League knock-out phase, by defeating Montpellier tonight.

Emirates Stadium

The Gunners currently sit in second position in Group B, one point behind Schalke in first, and one point ahead of Olympiakos. Three points at the Emirates Stadium tonight would likely mean qualification, as long as they avoid defeat to Olympiakos in their final fixture.

Arsenal have struggled in their previous two Champions League clashes, home and away to Schalke, where they were defeat 2-0 at home, and gained a draw away.

Montpellier meanwhile have gone four games without a victory, and have not recored a win so far in the Champions League group stages - their only point coming away to Schalke.

Arsenal will be without in form Theo Walcott, who damaged his shoulder in the weekend win. Andre Santos, who also featured in that match, is doubtful with abdominal problems. Olivier Giroud will face his former side.

Montpellier are without a suspended Souleymane Camara, defender Hilton is likely to play some part despite struggling recently with a groin injury. Benjamin Stambouli is doubtful with a viral infection.
