Man City captain Kompany a doubt for Chelsea fixture

Manchester City could be without Vincent Kompany for their Premier League meeting with Chelsea at the weekend after the captain suffered a knee injury during City’s Champions League match with Real Madrid on Wednesday, Sky Sports has reported.

Vincent Kompany jostles with Cristiano Ronaldo

Kompany was injured in a collision with Cristiano Ronaldo during the contest, but although he had to leave the pitch for treatment he was able to complete to see out the last 10 minutes. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, Karim Benzema opening the scoring with Sergio Aguero levelling from the penalty spot, but the result was not enough for City who have been eliminated from the group stage of the Champions League for the second year in succession.

The Belgium international underwent further treatment following the end of the game and it is not yet known if he will be available for the meeting of two of the Premier League’ top three, which takes place on Sunday. City go into the match as league leaders, with Chelsea four points adrift in third place.
