After Arsenal’s win over Montpellier in the Champions League their manager, Arsene Wenger, is keen to finish the group stage at the top of Group B.

Arsenal beat French champions Montpellier 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday with goals from Jack Wilshire, his first for almost two years, and Lukas Podolski, his seventh for Arsenal in all competitions this season, to qualify for the last 16 for the 13th consecutive season.

Arsenal still have a match at the Olympic Stadium in Athens to contend with but Wenger is determined to finish in first place. He told the Daily Mail: “We will play to win, to finish top of the group. We will try to win at Olympiakos and Montpellier can beat Schalke at home. We will take a full-strength team.

When asked about the victory over Montpellier, Wenger added: “I found Montpellier well organised, strong in their challenges and quite aggressive so for us it was a question of being patient, not making mistakes, using our experience and wait for a chances.

Arsenal, despite their record of getting through to the last 16 of the Champions League, have only ever got to the final once, in 2006, where they were beaten by Barcelona.
