Thursday 22 November 2012

Liverpool host Swiss side BSC Young Boys at Anfield in a pivotal tie to determine their qualification from the Europa League. Brendan Rodgers is expected to make changes as he looks ahead to a weekend trip to former side Swansea.

Anfield

The Reds sit second in the group and would qualify tonight if Anzhi avoid defeat at home to Udinese, so Rodgers is looking to mix his youth with some experienced heads. Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by Anzhi in their last outing and will be looking to bounce back with a victory over the Swiss side.

Captain Steven Gerrard and top scorer Luis Suarez are likely to feature with the latter scoring 13 goals already this season, 3 coming in Europe. Lucas Leiva is close to making a return to the side and will play with the Under 21’s on Friday in his latest stage of recovery.

Young Boys travel to Anfield fifth in their domestic league and off the back of a 3-1 victory over Udinese. The Swiss side were comfortably beaten 5-2 by Liverpool in the reverse fixture and boss Martin Rueda has a few injury concerns ahead of the game.

Former Millwall striker Josh Simpson is ruled out with a broken leg and Rueda also is without Joseph Martinez and Ivan Benito. Christoph Spycher faces a late fitness test after suffering with an inflamed knee and centre back Jan Lecjaks could recover in time following a foot injury. Young Boys know the group is in the balance and will be keen for victory at Anfield.
