Rodgers frustrated as Liverpool draw with Young Boys

Brendan Rodgers was left frustrated as his Liverpool side missed a chance to seal qualification from the Europa League group stage by only registering a draw with Swiss side Young Boys, Sky Sports has reported.

Liverpool held a 2-1 lead in the final minutes of the match but allowed the visitors to restore parity through a spectacular Elsad Zverotic goal. The draw means Liverpool will travel to Udinese in their final group game in need of at least a point to reach the next round.

Rodgers chose not to start with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, instead preferring a makeshift attack led by Jonjo Shelvey with Joe Cole in support. Both Cole and Shelvey got on the score sheet, with the manager singling out both players for praise after voicing his regret at the result.

It is a little frustrating. It is disappointing that with three or four minutes to go we didn't control the game better,” Rodgers said.

He added: “I thought Jonjo was outstanding playing in that little role for an hour. It was nice for Joe Cole to play well. He has been working very hard in training.

Liverpool next travel to Swansea City on Sunday, marking Rodgers’ first return to the Liberty Stadium after leaving the Welsh club for Anfield over the summer.
