Sunderland vs QPR - Match preview and team news

Harry Redknapp takes charge of his first match as Queens Park Rangers manager as Sunderland welcome the Premier League’s bottom side to the Stadium of Light.

Stadium of Light

Sunderland enter the match in mixed form, losing to the division’s surprise package West Bromwich Albion last time out but beating Fulham at Craven Cottage the week before. Martin O’Neill’s side have won only twice this season, in large part due to a chronic lack of goals - the Black Cats have hit just 12 goals in as many games in the league.

For all Sunderland’s problems, though, they pale into insignificance when compared to QPR’s. The Loftus Road club are not only five points adrift of second-bottom Reading, but they have not won a game this season - the only side in the Premier League or Football League yet to pick up three points. Mark Hughes last week paid the price for the R’s results, with Redknapp spirited in to try and stop the slide.

O’Neill will be forced to do without captain Lee Cattermole, who injured his knee in the first-half of the loss to West Brom on Saturday. Joining Cattermole on the sidelines is John O’Shea, who suffered a calf injury against the Baggies.

Redknapp could welcome back Park Ji-Sung, the summer signing from Manchester United, who has missed the last month with a knee injury, while full-back Jose Bosingwa has recovered from a virus that forced him out of Saturday’s defeat to United.
