Man Utd to tempt France youngster Zouma

Wednesday 28 November 2012

Manchester United are pulling out all the stops in their bid to persuade St. Etienne youngster Kurt Zouma to move to Old Trafford, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Kurt Zouma

The 18-year-old Zouma is hot property around Europe and United face competition for the centre-back, particularly from Manchester City, who have also made clear their interest in the France youth international.

United intend to bring Zouma to the club’s training centre to showcase the facilities that would be available should he choose to continue his career under Sir Alex Ferguson, as well as inviting Zouma to a match at Old Trafford. Should Ferguson be successful in his pursuit, it is likely going to take £9m to convince St. Etienne to part company with the player.

The Mirror adds that Zouma is not the only central defender currently on Ferguson’s radar, with Torino’s Italy international Angelo Ogbonna also being closely monitored. The desire to boost the defensive ranks is a reflection of United’s problems in the centre of defence this season, where injuries have taken their toll, and also of the chances of Rio Ferdinand leaving the club in the summer when his contract expires.
