Defoe as good as Falcao, claims Tottenham boss Villas-Boas

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has placed Jermain Defoe in exalted company, classing the striker on par with Atletico Madrid player Radamel Falcao as the best centre-forward he has worked with, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Falcao played under Villas-Boas at Porto, helping the team to a treble of trophies, including the Europa League in 2011, before Villas-Boas departed for Chelsea and Falcao moved on to Atletico. Falcao has gone on to become one of the hottest properties in European football while Villas-Boas’ time at Stamford Bridge ended in March but, after replacing Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane, the Portuguese believes he has at his disposal a player as good as the prolific Columbian.

Defoe scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season at the weekend with a brace against former club West Ham United, while Falcao has netted 14 goals in 13 games thus far this season and has caught the eye of Villas-Boas’ former club Chelsea, who could pay up to £50m to bring him to the Premier League in January.

Villas-Boas said: “Jermain knows how to score goals. He has been doing it for all of his life. I certainly put him alongside Falcao. I don't have a lot of experience. The experience I have is with a couple of strikers, but I put him up there with the best.
