Man Utd line up Lewandowski

Saturday 01 December 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson will add further firepower to his forward line at the end of the Premier League season by bringing Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski to Manchester United, the Daily Mail has reported.

Robert Lewandowski

Ferguson can already call upon Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, but has pursued Poland international Lewandowski for some time, with the player strongly linked to a move to Old Trafford over the summer. The transfer never materialised, however, and Ferguson nabbed van Persie from Arsenal instead.

Lewandowski’s contract at Dortmund has 18 months to run and with the 24-year-old showing little inclination towards a renewal, Ferguson will try for a second summer to tempt Dortmund into parting with the player. For his part, Lewandowski is said by the Mail to have told those close to him that he wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season.

If Lewandowski does make the move to Manchester he will be re-united with Shinji Kagawa, the former Dortmund midfielder who made the same journey this summer. United are hopeful of paying a fee similar to that for Kagawa for Lewandowski because of the contractual situation, angling to sign the player for around £12m.
