Man City v Everton - Match preview and team news

Saturday 01 December 2012

Defending Premier League champions Manchester City will be expecting one of their toughest tests to their unbeaten start to the league season to date with the visit of perennial bogey side Everton to the Etihad. Besides the Toffees’ impressive form of late, where although wins have been sparse it is still been enough to place David Moyes’ men in an impressive sixth position, four points off West Brom and the fourth Champions League place.

Etihad

City will continue to be without James Milner, Gael Clichy, Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell with hamstring, ankle, knee and hamstring injuries respectively. Up front, Roberto Mancini must choose between Mario Balotelli, who scored his first Premier League goal of the season at Wigan in midweek, Carlos Tevez and super-sub Edin Dzeko to partner Sergio Aguero. Matija Nastasic looks set to continue to play alongside Vincent Kompany in central-defence, despite claims that last season’s first-choice Joleon Lescott has asked Mancini for talks on his current position in the City squad.

Everton deemed themselves unlucky to only gain a point at home to Arsenal in midweek and will hold no fears going to the Etihad despite the quality of their opponents. However, if Leighton Baines were to fail to recover from a hamstring injury sustained in the Gunners draw, their chances will surely be diminished somewhat.

Elsewhere, Moyes is hoping to call upon the services of Seamus Coleman, Kevin Miralles and Victor Anichebe once again for the trip to Manchester. The return of the latter two would help ease the burden on the currently misfiring Nikica Jelavic in front of goal. Phil Neville remains a long-term absentee.
