Tottenham striker Adebayor to miss Africa Cup of Nations
Emmanuel Adebayor will decline to play for Togo in the Africa Cup of Nations after a financial row with the country’s governing body, benefitting Tottenham Hotspur and Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas in the process, the Daily Mail has reported.
Adebayor is unhappy that he and his international teammates have not yet received money due from a friendly victory over Morocco, and asked the Togolese Football Federation to explain a payment made by their Moroccan counterparts, including a payment directly to the president of the federation.
The former Manchester City striker previously retired from international football after the Togo team bus was attacked by an Angolan militia during the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, but resumed his career with the national team earlier in 2012.
Adebayor, 28, moved to Tottenham in a permanent transfer from Premier League champions City over the summer, having spent the entirety of last season on loan at White Hart Lane.
