Olympiakos vs Arsenal - Champions League preview and team news

Tuesday 04 December 2012

Arsenal go into their final Champions League Group B fixture having already qualified for the final stages.

Karaiskakis Stadium

The Gunners are currently a point behind Schalke, and will need the German side to drop points away to Montpellier if Arsenal are to secure top spot in the group, and the chance to avoid another group winner in the next round.

Wenger's side meanwhile would need to defeat Olympiakos at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus. The Greek Super League leaders may have already cemented third spot, but they will take encouragement from two Champions League victories in the last three outings - they will also remember defeating Arsenal 3-1 almost exactly a year ago, in last year's Champions League.

Arsenal come into this game on the back of Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Swansea, and having won only one Premier League fixture in the last six, at home to 10-man Tottenham.

Arsene Wenger is set to name a much changed side for tonight's game - Only Wojciech Szczesny, Thomas Vermaelen and Carl Jenkinson should keep their places in the line-up, with the manager hinting that Jernade Meade has a chance of playing at left-back. Of those set to miss out, injuries account for the absence of Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby.

Olympiakos will likely start with former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll in goal - defenders Charalampos Lykogiannis and Jose Holebas miss out injured.
