Brendan Rodgers will call on Luis Suarez as he attempts to ensure Liverpool remain in the Europa League after Christmas, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Rodgers has thus far chosen to rest Suarez for each of Liverpool’s away trips in the competition but on Thursday, when the Reds travel to Udinese, the Uruguayan striker is expected to be amongst the party. Liverpool need to at least draw with the Serie A side, who have already been eliminated from the tournament.

Suarez has featured in all of Liverpool’s home Europa League ties, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Scottish side Hearts and the 3-2 defeat to Udinese, part of his record this season of 13 goals in 21 games.

Rodgers is said to feel more comfortable playing Suarez in Udine as Suarez is suspended for the weekend’s trip to Upton Park and West Ham United after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Southampton, when he was adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball.
