Sagna angry at Arsenal contract situation

Bacary Sagna is said to be deeply unhappy at the way in which negotiations over renewing his contract at Arsenal are progressing, with the France international set to leave the club when the Premier League season draws to a close, the Daily Mail has reported.

Sagna’s current contract expires in 2014 and Arsenal have moved to tie him down early. However, by only offering a 12-month extension of terms to the 29-year-old - and refusing to increase his £60,000 per week wages - the Gunners have not met Sagna’s demands. The full-back is believed to have told teammates he will leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season as a result.

For their part, Arsenal are reluctant to hand a longer contract to a player who will be 30 early next year, as well as a player with a history of serious injuries. Sagna has twice in recent memory broken his leg, and it is claimed by the Mail that he is looking for a significant rise in his weekly wage.

Sagna, who has been at Arsenal since 2007 and has made more than 200 appearances for the Gunners, was a vocal critic of the decision to let leave both Robin van Persie and Alex Song this summer.
