Thursday 06 December 2012

Newcastle United head into their final game of Group D already qualified for the final stages of the Europa League, but play for top spot against Bordeaux.

Stade Chaban-Delmas

The Magpies would need to win tonight against their French opponents if they are to finish first in the group - a draw or defeat would still guarantee them second place.

Bordeaux, currently sixth in Ligue 1, have had a draw and a defeat in their last two outings, but they came on the back of six straight victories.

Newcastle meanwhile finally got back to winning ways at the weekend when they defeated Wigan 3-0 at home. That result ended a run of seven games without recording a victory. However, Alan Pardew will not need reminding that his side have not won an away game in their last 15 attempts.

Newcastle will start with Nile Ranger in attack, with Sammy Ameobi, Conor Newton and Shane Ferguson also set for starts. Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan and Steven Taylor all miss out.

Bordeaux have Henri Saivet returning, but Abdou Traore is facing a late test as he recovers from a thigh injury.
