Terry right to criticise Chelsea players, says Cahill

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has backed John Terry's recent public criticism of the players, reports Sky Sports.

Club captain Terry was critical of the club and their form in the programme notes ahead of their midweek Champions League game, stating that recent results "simply weren't good enough.” Cahill, 26, has backed his skipper, stating that the players deserved the berating. “If there's a time where it needs to be done, then sure, it's a positive, as long as it's taken the right way,” the England international added.

With 21 appearances for Chelsea this season, Cahill has been prominent in the London's side line-up, especially with Terry's recent ban, and he admits the players are worried about their form slump that has seen then drop 10 points behind leaders Manchester United. He said: “They expect to win the majority of games you go out and play. It's not been happening so it's going to be upsetting players and everyone involved.

I don't know what's gone wrong - that's the honest answer. It's the same group of players. The players have been asking that question themselves and we don't know really.

Their recent run of results includes failing to win in their last seven Premier League games, and despite their 6-1 win midweek over Danish side FC Nordsjaelland, they have also exited the Champions League.

Their Saturday clash with Sunderland is a chance for the Blues to get back on track, especially with the top two sides, United and Manchester City, meeting each other on Sunday.

It's the same group of players who started the season beating teams and scoring goals and keeping clean sheets. There's no reason why we can't get back to that but we were hoping it would come sooner. We've been waiting for that win,” Cahill added.
