Sunday 09 December 2012

The first Manchester derby of the season sees the runaway top two in the Premier League face off at the Etihad Stadium, with Roberto Mancini’s hosts looking to recover from their midweek European exit and take top spot from local rivals, who currently lead them by three points.

The visitors come into the game off the back of their own midweek Champions League disappointment but will surely be relishing the opportunity to move six points ahead of their neighbours at the top of the table.

The defending champions may have vital playmaker David Silva back after the Spain international missed his side’s final Champions League match at Borussia Dortmund with a hamstring injury. James Milner and Gael Clichy are also hoping for a role as they seek to recover from hamstring and ankle injuries respectively but Aleksander Kolarov, Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell will not feature.

Manchester United will have midfielder Tom Cleverley undergo a fitness test after the England international limped out of their Champions League defeat against CFR Cluj in midweek with a calf problem.

Elsewhere, Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled skipper Nemanja Vidic out of contention despite the defender’s return to full training. Midfielders Anderson and Shinji Kagawa are likely to miss out, while widemen Nani and Antonio Valencia will certainly be absent with hamstring injuries.
