Liverpool face competition from Man Utd and Chelsea for Arsenal's Walcott

Theo Walcott is expected to be a man in demand when the transfer window opens next month, as the Arsenal forward is the subject of a three-way fight between Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Chelsea are thought to be the new front-runners for the signature of the England international, particularly as they are better placed to offer Walcott the prospect of Champions League football next season. The Blues are currently third in the Premier League while Liverpool are 10th, four points adrift of the top four place currently held by near neighbours Everton.

Interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez previously tried to sign Walcott for Liverpool when he was in charge at Anfield, and, despite not having responsibility for transfers at Stamford Bridge, will lend his support to a proposed move for Walcott.

Walcott’s contract is due to expire next summer and thus far agreeing a new one with the Gunners has proved problematic. Manager Arsene Wenger is said to be willing to cash in on Walcott in January in an effort to put the issue to bed, with United and Chelsea ready to match the asking price and Liverpool potentially left in the cold, the Mirror added.
