Liverpool vs Aston Villa - Match preview and team news

Saturday 15 December 2012

Liverpool are looking to build on three straight victories when they host Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday.

Anfield

The Reds have lifted themselves to 10th on the back of two Premier League victories in a row, over Southampton and West Ham. One defeat in their last 11 league matches will be of comfort to manager Brendan Rodgers, as will recent successes at turning draws into wins.

Aston Villa meanwhile are also beginning to find some form following a difficult start to the season that sees the Villains one spot away from the relegation zone. Five games unbeaten, a run which includes two wins, will give Paul Lambert's side inspiration heading into this clash, as will their away form, where they have been defeated just once in the last five games on their travels.

Having missed out last weekend due to suspension, Luis Suarez returns to the fold in place of Jonjo Shelvey. Nuri Sahin and Fabio Borini are out injured, and may be joined by Jose Enrique who has a hamstring strain. Joe Cole is set to keep his place in the starting line-up after hitting the winner against West Ham last weekend.

Villa are without Darren Bent, who picked-up a hamstring injury in midweek. Gabreil Agbonlahor is unlikely to feature, meaning Andreas Weimann will return to the starting eleven.
