Tottenham vs Swansea - Match preview and team news

Sunday 16 December 2012

Both Tottenham and Swansea are looking to recover from league losses as they entertain each other at White Hart Lane. The Swans had a positive 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, but will face a sterner task away at Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

White Hart Lane

Spurs looked set for a fifth consecutive victory away at Everton last Sunday before two late goals from the Toffees saw a 2-1 loss for Villas-Boas’ outfit. The Portuguese boss will not be too disappointed as his side have produced some good performances so far this season in the Premier League. Tottenham are pushing for a Champions League place and a victory over Swansea could give them an added boost heading into the busy Christmas period.

Villas-Boas is expected to continue with his two striker formation and pair Jermain Defoe with Emmanuel Adebayor up front. Benoit Assou-Ekotto, although returning to first-team training, is not available for the game against Swansea and Jan Vertonghen will continue his role at left-back. Scott Parker is still a long-term absentee with an Achilles problem.

Swansea have injury problems themselves with summer signing Pablo Hernandez still suffering from a thigh problem picked up in last month’s victory over West Bromwich Albion. Leon Britton returned in midweek against Boro and is expected to regain his place following his absence in last weekend’s 4-3 defeat to Norwich City. Ashley Williams is back following suspension and Laudrup has the dilemma of playing Itay Schechter or Danny Graham up front.

The Swans sit just inside the top half, but only three points behind Tottenham who are in fifth position. Laudrup’s men will travel to White Hart Lane looking to alter their league fortunes after the disappointing loss to the Canaries at the Liberty Stadium last time out. Swansea’s travelling fans will face one of their old boys in Gylfi Sigurdsson after last season’s loanee from Hoffenheim chose White Hart Lane over extending his stay in South Wales.
