Tottenham are yet to receive confirmation on whether striker Emmanuel Adebayor will appear for Togo in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, reports the BBC.

Adebayor was on the scoresheet in Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Reading on New Year’s Day, but would miss up to five games for Spurs should he decide to appear for his country in South Africa from mid-January.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed the latest on the situation, but also admitted that he would not try and influence the former Real Madrid man to stay at White Hart Lane for the period:

"It's a vulnerable situation, anything can happen. I've told you the player can still go, I understand it is still a possibility.

"It was always his choice, I'm not going to put pressure on him. We've left it to [the] player to decide."

Adebayor, 28, has netted two league goals in 13 appearances this season following his £5m move from Manchester City – on loan last season the Togo international ended top scorer with 17 Premier League goals.

Togo will be desperate to get Adebayor into their squad – the striker has scored an impressive 26 goals in 54 appearances for the African side. If he does join up with the national team, Spurs will be left with just Jermain Defoe and Clint Dempsey as recognised strikers.
