Joleon Lescott could be heading for the exit door at Premier League champions Manchester City as Aston Villa consider a move for the England international, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Joleon Lescott

Lescott, a Villa supporter in his younger days, has been in and out of favour under Roberto Mancini this season, spending time on the sidelines earlier in the campaign but returning to the side in recent weeks, playing in three of City’s matches over the festive and New Year period.

Villa manager Paul Lambert is said to be in the market for an experienced defender capable of playing at centre-back and left-back after watching his side concede 17 goals in their last four games, scoring only two in reply.

Any more for Lescott would depend on either the club agreeing to meet his wage demands or the player taking a drastic pay cut as Villa owner Randy Lerner is still understood to be keen to reduce the club’s wage bill. Lescott is rated by the Mirror as a £10m signing, with former club Everton and Sunderland also said to be keen.
