Rooney to miss Man Utd clash with Liverpool
Wayne Rooney is set to be out for at least a further two weeks, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed.
Rooney, 27, is currently struggling with a knee injury, and has been out since just before Christmas when he faced Swansea.
Ferguson, talking to the club's official website, gave an update on the situation:
"It's a surprise as he was meant to be back training now. So he'll be out for longer than we thought and I don't think he will be fit for the Liverpool match.
"The injury is nothing serious. He just got clipped behind his knee. Nothing shows in the scan but he's still feeling it. Hopefully in two weeks it'll be sorted but nonetheless it's a loss."
The England international will miss the home clash with Liverpool, and will be a doubt the following week when his Manchester United side travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham. If the two week time-frame is accurate, Rooney could return in time for United's home clash with Southampton at the end of January.
Rooney has netted seven goals in 14 league games this season, helping his side to a seven point lead at the top of the Premier League.
In the absence of Rooney, Javier Hernandez, having netted eight goals in 13 this season, is set to continue his fruitful partnership with Robin van Persie.
